U.S. Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that a Lower Brule man charged with Assaulting a Federal Officer was sentenced on August 8, 2011, by U.S. District Judge Charles B. Kornmann. Cory Ray Crazy Bull, age 18, was sentenced to 12 months in custody.
Crazy Bull was indicted for Assaulting a Federal Officer by a federal grand jury in May 2011. He pled guilty to a Superseding Information on July 25, 2011.
The charge stems from an incident in April 2011 when Crazy Bull was sentenced on a previous case. Upon sentencing, the defendant became visibly upset, and as he was being escorted from the courtroom by U.S. Marshal Steve Houghtalling, he began to resist and pull away, flailing his body and kicking his legs. Crazy Bull's actions involved simple assault to Stephen Houghtalling.
The investigation was conducted by the U.S. Marshal’s Service. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Randolph J. Seiler.
Crazy Bull was immediately returned to the custody of the U.S. Marshal.
